NOT JUST A FILM BRO
Perhaps you’ve clicked this website and you don’t work in film at all. Maybe you’re wondering how exactly the TV writer who is interested in working with you could fit on your team. Well luckily for you (and me), working in the film industry has given me a variety of skills applicable to a wide range of industries and job positions. You can read my non-film resume here.
Writing & Communications
Screenwriting involves creating blueprint for a film— a great script combines a clear voice, an efficient use of language, and strong structure. I pride myself on being able to match the voice of different brands by addressing the needs of the client, evaluating the intended audience, and developing creative ideas to allow the brand to grow. I’m able to shift easily from quick comedic captions to detailed, grounded copywriting. You can see an example of my work with Arc Studio here.
Management & Operations
As a production assistant, I cut my teeth working in fast-paced environments, handling the hierarchies of talent and department heads, all while keeping a positive, problem-solving attitude in the face of ever-changing daily obstacles. A large part of my work often involved interfacing between different types of departments to both find workflow synchronicity in a fast-paced environment and develop creative cohesion to execute our final products.
From schedule management and meeting preparation to budgeting and asset tracking, my job covered a wide range of responsibilities in order to ensure a smooth running office for my producers, editors, and talent. I was often tasked with tracking last element from music cues and story consistency to mere pixels and grammar rules, often handling many episodes at once. Particularly from working as a personal assistant, I’ve become a whip at creating collaborative administrative systems that allow me to support a variety of needs.
Culture & Research
I believe an important part of artist’s job is to stay in conversation with the larger zeitgeist. Keeping up to date with the latest fads, staying hip to the newest culture makers, and continuing to consume all different types of media allow me to keep a finger to the pulse of what is moving modern audiences.
In terms of research, in writers rooms we’re constantly in search of details to create more authentic worlds for our characters to inhabit, often in communities and time periods we have never been a part of. Research is a crucial part of the writing process. From both my personal work and as a writers assistant, I have extensive experience organizing key topics to help myself or other writers stay informed on important details.
