What’s Up?

My name is Drew Buchmeyer (they/them). I’m a Brooklyn-based, trans non-binary writer and performer with nearly a decade of film industry experience. Born in Texas to Midwestern parents, I spent most of my childhood moving all over the world: from a ritzy private school in Southern England to an exceptionally moderate, Christian community in Calgary, Alberta, and so on. But I finally found my footing during high school in New Orleans where my journalism teacher recognized that my uprooted childhood made for a naturally curious artist, and encouraged me to ditch an engineering degree to pursue writing.

After graduating from the University of Michigan with high honors in film & screenwriting for my independent pilot, and earning the prestigious Hopwood Award for my feature-length script, I moved to New York City. Within months, I landed my first job as a background production assistant on Billions, and a few years after that I started in my first writers room, Tokyo Vice. Since then, I’ve worked up the ladder to become a full time television writer, with my most recent work on the upcoming second season of Your Friends and Neighbors on AppleTV, starring Jon Hamm.

As I forge ahead in my career, what drives me is a passion to enhance queer representation both on and off screen. I hope to not only contribute my own stories and voice to the larger canon, but hope that I can create valuable opportunities for fellow LGBTQ+ artists through mentorship and collaboration.

For now, you can find me at the new coffee shop down my block developing my pilot, You’re Listening, Too, into an original narrative podcast with an all-trans cast.

I am not currently represented, and am available for work.
